- Xi'an-
Xi'an, also known as Chang'an and Haojing, is located in the Guanzhong Plain of the Yellow River basin in northwest China. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province, serving as the provincial capital, a sub-provincial city, and a megacity. The city's terrain slopes sharply from south to north, predominantly consisting of plains and mountains. It experiences a warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate. The Xi'an dialect belongs to the Guanzhong subdialect of the Zhongyuan dialect within Northern Mandarin.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage City in 1981, Xi'an stands as one of the cradles of Chinese civilization and the starting point of the ancient Silk Road. It ranks alongside world-renowned ancient cities such as Rome, Athens, and Cairo. Among China's six ancient capitals, Xi'an boasts the longest history as a capital city, with Chang'an culture forming a vital component of Chinese civilization.
Xi'an is designated by the State Council as a key central city in Western China, a National Historical and Cultural City, an international comprehensive transportation hub, a major national center for scientific research and cultural education, the economic center of Western China, a hub for technological innovation, an advanced manufacturing base, a center for international exchanges, and an international tourist destination. The Development Plan for the Guanzhong Plain Urban Cluster explicitly proposes building Xi'an into a national central city.
